Cap Manufacturing Glossary
Key headwear and manufacturing terms, defined.
Panels
The fabric sections that form a cap crown — commonly 5-panel or 6-panel. More panels allow a rounder crown and more seam placement for logos.
Buckram
A stiff fabric backing fused behind the front panels of a structured cap to hold a firm, upright shape.
Sweatband
The inner band around the cap opening that sits on the forehead; can be cotton, moisture-wicking or taped for comfort.
3D Puff Embroidery
Embroidery stitched over foam to create raised, dimensional lettering — popular on snapbacks and trucker caps.
Structured vs Unstructured
Structured caps use buckram for a firm high crown; unstructured (dad hat) caps have a soft, low crown that folds.
Closure
The back adjuster of a cap: snapback (plastic snap), buckle, velcro, D-ring/strapback, fitted (none) or stretch band.
MOQ
Minimum Order Quantity — the smallest number of pieces per style/colour a factory will produce. MughalCaps MOQ is 100.
DDP
Delivered Duty Paid — the seller handles freight, export and import clearance and duties to the buyer’s door.
